Medford's best breweries
Medford’s Best Breweries
This generation has become obsessed with microbreweries. New and delicious breweries are popping up all over the place. What makes them so great are not only the welcoming environment, but more often than not, they can be family friendly. This allows parents who need that getaway “stay-cation” more doable in a safe and fun way. If you’re new to the area, or are looking for some awesome recommendations, here are some great places to try!
Walkabout Brewery –
My absolute favorite place to go! Bring your kids, dogs, grandparents, friends, whoever…. It’s got a killer “backyard,” with some summer entertainment such as musicians, comedians, trivia, etc. Although some of the events are for adults only, in most cases, children are allowed in the back area where there is grass to run around on, picnic benches, large fire pit, and games such as ladder golf and corn hole. There are even bowls left outside so your pet can get some water! Although there isn’t a large food option, there is pizza!
Now for the best part… Their beer is amazing! My personal favorite is the Jabberwocky English Strong ale, but they also have a Worker’s Pale Ale, Ripper IPA, and Aussie Gold as a common option year round. The owner once suggested mixing Jabberwocky with a coffee stout… that was outstanding! Their seasonal brews are out of this world delicious such as Midnight Oil Coffee Stout, Platypus Porter and Teeth Double IPA. It’s always high quality and the servers/staff are all incredibly welcoming. Whether you’re just visiting or here permanently I highly, HIGHLY recommend this place.
Bricktowne Brewery –
Children are allowed on one side of the brewery. No games or a large yard, so bringing a tablet wouldn’t hurt. As a parent, I know some quiet time out is important. Bricktowne is more of a restaurant, rather than a chill hangout place for you and the family. It is however incredibly laid back for you and a couple buddies to hang at the bar to share some laughs and unwind. It’s pretty small indoors, but the food is killer. I’ve had appetizers such as fried pickles and tater tots to their Cubano sandwich. Being a picky eater… I have to say it’s extremely tasty and has a kid friendly menu too.
Bricktowne has a vast selection of different types of ales such as ESB, Cream Ale, Stout, Porter, Red, and more. My personal favorite is the Whiskey Cannon Porter. It’s extremely heavy and rich (probably more of a dessert), and it fills you up, but dang it’s good. Whatever you are in the mood for, they are more than likely to have it. Not to mention it’s always refreshing and cold.
Common Block Brewery-
This place is typically pretty packed for lunch. It’s located near Lithia’s office buildings and Downtown Medford, so grabbing a table in the afternoon can sometimes be a burden. On the flip side of things, it’s busy for a reason folks… the food is some of Southern Oregon’s better quality meals. I have yet to eat there and be disappointed. If you hate waiting however, dinnertime is usually a good time to go without much of a wait.
First off, I haven’t seen crawdad on a menu since I lived in Colorado. May I boast that their Crawdad and Shrimp Chowder is by far my favorite soup at any restaurant here in Medford. It does not matter what you order, grilled salmon and spinach salad, braised pork nachos, pizza, tacos… it’s a delight in every bite. This food paired with their many selections of local brews and house wines, makes this place worthy of a little wait in the afternoon.
